Our compounding division can also work with your physician or hospice agency to meet the needs of a patient with either long-term pain or
a terminal illness. There is additional information about Hospice Care applications in the Infusion Care Section of our web site.
There are times when either the oral or rectal route are not available to administer medication. When this condition exists, we are able to
prepare topical gels which carry medication through the skin and may provide relief of pain symptoms or other conditions such as nausea,
vomiting, dizziness, or excessive secretions. We also have the ability to compound multi-medication rectal suppositories to treat the presenting
symptoms of the patient as well.
When the oral route is available but the patient is unable to swallow, there are numerous medications which can be prepared in a troche
dosage form. Troches are designed to be placed in the buccal pouch of the mouth (between the cheek and gum) and allowed to melt
slowly. As they melt, they release the drug inside the mouth where it is absorbed through the many blood vessels under the tongue.
